La Junta’s Legacy for 9/11 Day

The 9/11Day.org helps youth-serving organizations empower young people to serve their communities in observance of 9/11 Day — the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance — as the nation commemorates the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Supported projects focus on meaningful action, thoughtful reflection, and measurable community impact.

La Junta’s Legacy:

Honoring Yesterday,

Empowering Tomorrow

La Junta’s legacy is defined by a deep-rooted tradition of service, patriotism, and community resilience. For the 25th anniversary of 9/11, the La Junta Legacy Project translates these values into meaningful action by mobilizing youth volunteers to restore and beautify 14 separate municipal locations. Each site is dedicated to a Colorado victim or hero of 9/11, anchoring thoughtful reflection directly into the physical landscape of our town. By pairing students side-by-side with local veterans, this initiative creates a measurable community impact—not only transforming our public parks but passing the torch of civic responsibility and remembrance to the next generation.
